bag stories

skills learned:

Creative Thinking

materials needed

Gym bag/Plastic bag
Random Items (at least enough for the number of group members)

instructions

Place the random items you've selected into the bag.  Have the group sit in a circle.  Hand the bag to one of the group members to begin the game.

The group member will reach into the bag and pull out an item to begin the story.  Each person can only say a sentence, but their sentence has to include the object that they took from the bag.  They also have to make an effort to continue a whole story based off of the sentences that have been said before them.

For example:

*Kid 1 starts with the bag and pulls out a pencil.
Kid 1 (pencil): Jack realized that he forget his pencil at home.
*Passes the bag to kid 2, who pulls out a sock.
Kid 2 (sock): He then remembered that he had an extra one in his sock.

This continues until all of the items are selected.  If there is still time, place the items back in the bag and repeat the activity.

process questions

Was it hard to be creative when you could only say a sentence?
How were you able to come up with your sentence?

adaptations

1. If the activity is too difficult, and depending on your age group, you can allow the players to use more sentences.
